Lomi-Lomi Massage

Lomi-Lomi, meaning “massage” in the Hawaiian language, is the word used today to describe Hawaiian massage, traditionally called lomi meaning “to rub, press, squeeze, massage; to work in and out, as the claws of a contented cat”. Lomi-Lomi is a holistic healing tradition beyond simple massage.

Ortho-Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive, osteopathically-based form of body therapy which is highly effective in working with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. The practitioner uses gentle movements and positions of the body to facilitate the change of stress and pain patterns. A strong focus is placed on the comfort of the individual, no forceful manipulations are used. The practitioner also suggests home exercises that individuals can do to further facilitate the neuromuscular re-education process begun in the session. Ortho-Bionomy is very effective in helping alleviate both acute and chronic pain and stress patterns by reducing chronic muscle tension, soothing the joints, increasing flexibility, improving circulation, and relaxing the entire body.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness and poor circulation.

Foot Reflexology

Reflexology is an alternative medicine involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on what reflexologists claim to be a system of zones and reflex areas that they say reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Pregnancy/Maternity Massage

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Swedish massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy.

Deep Tissue Massage & Advanced Technique Sessions:

60 minute and 90 minute sessions available

Client tailored sessions that utilize Deep Tissue Massage and other Advanced Massage Techniques, like…

Structural Integration

Structural Integration’s aim is to unwind the strain patterns residing in your body’s myofascial system, restoring it to its natural balance, alignment, length, and ease. This is accomplished by deep, slow, fascial and myofascial manipulation, coupled with movement re-education. Various brands of Structural Integration are Kinesis Myofascial Integration, Rolfing and Hellerwork.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.

Connective Tissue Massage

This technique is effective in releasing restrictions in the muscles, non-contractile supportive connective tissue, and contractile supportive tissue. Connective tissue massage is effective in treating conditions like neck pain, low back, whip lash, etc. This technique provides relief from symptoms of disorders affecting the neuromusculoskeletal system by releasing restrictions within the myofascial network.

Repetitive Use Injury Therapy

With the Repetitive Use Injury Therapy, scar tissue is broken up, the muscle is lengthened, muscle memory is restored and relief from pain starts immediately.

Hot Stone Massage

A stone massage uses cold or water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to the body. Stones coated in oil can also be used by the therapist delivering various massaging strokes. The hot stones used are commonly Basalt stones (or lava rocks) which over time have become extremely polished and smooth. As the stones are placed along the recipient’s back, they help to retain heat which then deeply penetrates into the muscles, releasing tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly.

CranioSacral Therapy

A CranioSacral therapy session involves the therapist placing their hands on the patient, which allows them to tune into what they call the cranioSacral rhythm. The practitioner claims to gently work with the spine and the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia. In this way, the restrictions of nerve passages are said to be eased, the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord is said to be optimized, and misaligned bones are said to be restored to their proper position. CranioSacral therapists use the therapy to treat mental stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ syndrome, and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

Bamboo Massage

Bamboo massage is a technique that incorporates bamboo stalks of varying lengths and diameters to provide deep-tissue work. It promotes circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage and provides a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.
